Casing
The Structure Inside Every Hartex Tyre. Named So You Know What You're Riding.
TPI – threads per inch — is the measure of how finely woven the casing fabric inside your tyre is. It affects how the tyre feels, how much it weighs, and how it responds to the road. Higher TPI means a more supple, responsive tyre that conforms to surface irregularities. Lower TPI means a robust, durable tyre built for volume use and consistent performance.
Hartex offers four clearly named casing tiers so every rider can choose with confidence – not confusion.
Casing Tyre types
Core
20 TPI & 30 TPI
Built for Everyday. Built to Last.
Core is the entry point in the Hartex casing range – not a compromise, but a deliberate design choice for riders who prioritize durability and consistent performance over multiple seasons. The robust construction handles sustained use and rough surfaces without giving up reliability.
Sport
60 TPI
The Casing Most Riders Will Never Need to Look Beyond.
Sport sits at the crossroads of performance and practicality. At 60 TPI, the casing is supple enough to give you a responsive, connected ride on varied terrain – but robust enough for regular use without the care demands of a race-grade construction. If you’re choosing a tyre for serious recreational riding, Sport is your tier.
Pro
120 TPI
Feel Every Surface. Respond to Every Input.
Pro is for riders who notice the difference a casing makes. At 120 TPI, the fabric is fine enough to conform precisely to road and trail surfaces – reducing rolling resistance and giving your tyre an almost intuitive feel under load. Paired with a performance compound, a Pro casing tyre becomes a noticeably different ride.
Race
120+ TPI
Casing Built for Competition. Nothing Held Back.
Race is the highest tier in the Hartex casing range. Constructed for minimum weight and maximum suppleness, Race-grade casings are designed for competitive riders where every gram and every millisecond of rolling efficiency counts. Not an everyday tyre — a performance tool.
What Exactly Is TPI?
TPI stands for threads per inch. It refers to the number of nylon threads woven into each square inch of the tyre casing fabric. More threads means a finer, more flexible weave — which translates to a lighter, more supple tyre. Fewer threads means a coarser, more robust construction. The right TPI depends on how you ride and what you prioritise.
